Welcome All
Hello to all Ham Operator's and Scanner Listeners. There are many sites on the internet that contain a unbelievable amount of information about amatuer radio, and I hope that this site may contain information that will be useful to those who have stopped by to see what is on this perticular web site. This site will contain information for our local area of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sevier, and Knox county area.If you find something that may be incorrect please let me know so that I may change. Thanks and enjoy !!
I have been a amatuer radio operator for over 20 years now, and I hold a advance class license, and at present running a Yaesu FT2800M 2 meter radio as a base with a Ringo Ranger II antenna 30 feet above ground, and have a Yaesu VX150 handi talkie, have a FT5100 in my car with a Jetstream 40 "Dual Band Magnetic Mount Antenna. I also have a Yaesu FT857D multiband band which covers 2 meters and 70 cm 6 meters and all HF Bands on a Hustler 4 BVT, I have a pair of Hamsticks setup as a dipole on the Hamstick Mount for 75 / 80 meters 20 ft off the ground, and also have 10 meter hamsticks 15 ft off the ground, both on the horizontal side, I have made dipoles for 12-15-17-20 and 40 meters which i can set up in a few minutes, and take back down as to keep the wife happy and so it won't look like a antenna farm, which it's starting to anyway. I have a 2500 Yaesu 2 meter also hooked up as base, and a Kenwood dual band TW-4000A fixed on battery backup if the power was to go out, for emergency operation. Also have a battery back up for the 350c base scanner and some of the other recieving equipment that I have. I will be purchasing a set of Hamsticks for 60 meters soon and alo be operating on this band. I use a manual MFJ antenna tuner fo my HF eqipment, but again will be getting a autotuner to make a little easier in matching up my radio to antenna's. In addition I also have a ADI, AR247 220 mhz hooked up as base stations in the house going into a MFJ 1547 5/8's wave ground plane, mounted 20 feet above ground which seems to perform fair for the area repeaters and simplex frequencies. I enjoy many things,I am a member of ARES,Amatuer Radio Emergency Service, I also enjoy woodworking, computers, shooting, nascar, but most of all my family. My wife is a very understanding lady and enjoys her scanner and listening to ham radio and now she is also studing for her tech license,She really enjoys ham radio and listens to all the frequencies but her favorite is the 147.195 VHF repeater, which she can tell you each person by name when she hears them!! I enjoy HF and really missed not having for several years, but the wife and stepson said was ok to get this year with our tax return, so I did and very happy that they didn't care for me purchasing, it really is very relaxing fro me and as I said we all enjoy it. I check into several nets on HF, 2 of the Country Cousin Nets, very good net!, Tennessee Phone Net,Ohio SSB Net, Georgia SSB Net, Ibank Net, Sunbelt Net,11:00pm Net,Bager Net,South Cars and a few rag chew nets on the HF side. For more information about me go to QRZ.com and type in my amatuer call, and a great photo of me, its awsome!!! OK Maybe Not.
